Borodino Firefighter Gerard Marcheterre died from a heart attack while responding to a rescue call Saturday night in the Town of Spafford.

Marcheterre was feeling short of breath while on the way to the barn collapse. He was later taken to Cortland Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The barn collapsed around 10:00 pm on Ripley Hill because of heavy snow. Some cows were trapped inside the barn during the collapse.
