Fire damages Manlius home
Mon. Feb 1st 2010

A Manlius home suffered extensive smoke and water damage Monday evening, but no one was injured in the blaze.

Firefighters from several area volunteer fire departments responded to the fire at 5499 North Manlius Road around 5:30 p.m.

When they arrived, they found a fire that had begun in the living room of a clapboard home. The occupants had evacuated, said Fayetteville Fire Department Captain John Falgiatano, and it took firefighters maybe five minutes to knock the blaze down.

However blackend walls and ceilings could be seen through broken windows at the scene.

Firefighters involved inclulded those from Manlius, Manlius Center, Fayetteville, DeWitt, Kirkville, Minoa, Lyncourt and East Syracuse.

Falgiatano said that while there was a fireplace in the living room, it did not appear to be where the fire originated. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Onondaga County fire investigator.
